(元音、辅音是音素的一种)
在语音学与音韵学中，音素一词所指的是说话时所发出的声音
以前的音标现在也可以叫音素，而且现在正广泛的把音标叫音素。 每一种语言中的音素都是不一样的，即使是同种语言中，方言的音素也是不一样的。音素应该与人体的发音严格的区分开，因为音素是指一个有规律的有限的发音系统而人体的发音则是无限的。 以英语为例，英语共有48个音素，其中元音20个，辅音28个。英语辅音和元音在语言中的作用，就相当于汉语中的声母和韵母。记录语音音素的符号叫做音标
国际音标（这里指的是国际语音协会制定的国际音标，注意同英语国际音标区分）的音标符号与全人类语言的音素具有一一对应
音素是构成音节的最小单位或最小的语音片段，是从音质的角度划分出来的最小的线性的语音单位
音节是用听觉可以区分清楚的语音基本单位，它的构成分头腹尾三部分，因而音节之间具有明显可感知的界限。在汉语中一般一个汉字的读音即为一个音节。普通话常用基本无调音节为400个，有调音节（不包括轻声）为1300多个。
英语音节编辑
划分方法:音节是读音的基本单位，任何单词的读音，都是分解为一个个音节朗读。在英语中元音(a e i o u共五个)特别响亮，一个元音音素（音素不是字母）可构成一个音节，一个元音音素和一个或几个辅音音素结合也可以构成一个音节。
英语的词有一个音节的，两个音节的，多个音节的，一个音节叫单音节词，两个音节叫双音节词，两个音节以上叫多音节。如：take 拿是单音节词；‘ta-ble 桌子是双音节词；po-‘ta-to马铃薯，po-pu-‘la-tion 人口，con-gra-tu-‘la-tion 祝贺,te-le-com-mu-ni-‘ca-tion 电讯等是多音节词
音节的核心是元音,元音可以单独构成音节,也可以与辅音字母一起构成音节 注意,不要将元音和元音字母搞混.
英语共有48个音素，其中元音20个，辅音28个
元音是在发音过程中由气流通过口腔而不受阻碍发出的音，又叫母音
辅音气流在口腔或咽头受到阻碍而形成的音叫做辅音，又叫子音

爆破音：气流冲破口腔，爆发出来的（6个）

摩擦音：通过口腔部位摩擦产生的声音 （10个）
[f]、[v]、[s]、[z]、[θ]、[e]、[?]、[?]、[h]、[r]
破擦音：破擦音的破代表的是破擦音，擦代表的是摩擦音，破擦音就是爆破音和摩擦音的组合

鼻音：鼻音只有三个音，是按照前中后来分的（3个）
[m]、[n]、[?]
半元音：有时候看作辅音、有时候看作元音（2个）
