The IoT movement in the next few years not only brings us fast-growing product quality, lowering operating expenditures, accelerating business innovation and consumption saving for sustainable society, but also leads to some risk we should approach.
For an entrepreneur, IoT means cost-effective especially in manufacturing industry. M2M and manufacture automation make more money to be earned without extra capital investment. But it‘s not a easy pace. Even if inner corporation, different department sectors approach the same issue depending on their specfic interest, finalities and roles. Development sector sees BYOD as a pros than a cons, more innovation and productivity can be imported, while asset or financial sectors are more doubt about BYOD at risk. Unless we can break down these barriers between them and make value transition transparent and efficient, we will not take the full advantage of IoT technology and bring the biggest revenue from IoT.
IoT aims to high-performance energy usage, but while more frequent data capture from sensors or actuators needs more energy consumption. There should be a trade-off.
Push all data to Cloud for analytics or pre-promised analytics before cloud? Also a choice for IoT solution. Data filtering or pre-retrieving in edge devices or forg network is good for accurate decision making. Further more, it‘s more easy to provide a security monitoring on a concentrate point than a distributed scenario. But it also brings a bottleneck risk as tight coupling. IoT framework or platform providers should take more attention about this issue.
IoT not only make our life easy and convenient, but also change our business model. According to analysts, weather prediction also has explicit impact on retail. More people are likely to go shopping mall if sunny, while more on-line shopping if raining. So accurate prediction may lead marketing model changing. In the future, we will see more such change happening.
More and more connected devices will be used, corporations will earn benefit more from capital and tech rather than workforce, which may lead the employees a weaker position in labour relations. Income inequality will be aggravated.
